Though Mr. Assange throws the RULE OF LAW argument back into the faces of those who most like to use it themselves when it serves their purposes, I see the other part of this interview as more important.
I came out of the Army with a newly acquired ideology of civil rights and non violence. As the years passed that non-violence part slowly grew and has now become the dominate feature of my ideology as I have come to understand that our collective American acceptance of losing thousands of our own and killing millions of Others is more cultural than political.
Of course this is not unique to Americans, but our acceptance and use of violence by far tops the rest of the civilized world whether it be in jungles, deserts or on our own streets.
It is why I do so much screeching about guns, the NRA, capital punishment, torture, corporal punishment, rottweilers, pit bulls, hunting and vengeance. All of which are interconnected to our violent nature, which we so thoughtlessly hand down to our children generation after generation.
Primarily it is the Republican party and conservative ideology that is at fault, you only have to look into the faces of Sarah Palin or Ted Nugent to sea the utter joy they take in killing some defenseless animal. Or here in Huntsville Republicans and Christians cheering outside the Walls Unit after an execution.
What I find most offensive about our acceptance of violence is the anger the Right – who are also our self appointed spokesman for Jesus Christ – dispenses upon those who have the temerity to speak the words "peace", "mercy", "forgiveness", or Heaven forbid, "Imagine there’s no countries, no religion too…" OMG! They turn purple. Sprays of spit often sparkle in the lighting as they scream "Damm Do Gooders", "Damn Bleeding Hearts", "Wussies", "Pussies", "Communists", "Cowards", "Traitors" and "unAmerican."
I watch Mornin’ Joe to get my daily dose of Republican banter. Host and once US Congressman from the Florida Panhandle, Christian Joe Scarborough, has one issue that gets him the most upset and animated. The one where you can actually see the spit flying in the TV lights and him having to brush drool off his shirt. The issue in which his face turns red and moves into darker stages of purple and you wonder if his head may actually explode. His response to anyone who questions the use of TORTURE. It is the nature of the Beast.
