Sarah Palin nostalgic for the calm days of dueling pistols

Sarah Palin struck many disgusting chord in her ‘I’m a Victim’ speech. In one odd defense of her own violent rhetoric she seemed to suggest that more shooting would be better than the verbal slings and arrows she’s justly receiving from journalists and pundits. Palin spoke of "back in those ‘calm days’ when political figures literally settled their differences with dueling pistols."

There are no points for originality in the Tea Party, Tim Pawlenty and Heidi Harris have recently used the dueling pistol reference. We can expect to hear it from each one in turn, but I can scarcely think of a more unwelcome time for Palin to conjure the imagery.
