Most American grocery store commercials give every appearance of being generic – so similar are they. Aisles of fresh produce, and all of the usual convenience foods and ingredients being piled into a cart, as canned music blares…It too is generic, and could be used on prisoners of war. The most excitement in most ads is the discovery of a double coupon! What a snooze.
You won’t fall asleep during this commercial for the grocery chain EDEKA titled “Supergeil” which means Super Cool. The ad features a man who is often mistaken for the star of an American ad; ‘The Most Interesting Man in the World’ for Dos Equis. The star, German musician Friederich Liechtenstein could give the Dos Equis Latin lover a run for his money in the ‘interesting’ department!
Grocery shopping is not a boring chore for our hero. Liechtenstein enjoys every moment of his day. The dapper fun-seeker, pretend-smokes a hot dog while stroking a cat, like an evil genius. He hides in the trunk of a stranger’s car, and steals food from housewives. He knows how to relax at the end of a long day of hunting and gathering, by taking a long soak in a nice deep tub – filled with his favorite cereal…Yum!
