Lawrence O’Donnell parses Newt’s recent hypocritical tour de force, the pre-electionish ramble he gave on the Christian Network. Gingrich spoke as if he were a man explaining away any mistakes he may have made, from the perspective of a seasoned and wiser veteran. Translation: You can trust me now that I don’t have to think about Bill Clinton having sex every day in the fulfillment of my job, the job in which I served from raging passion for my country. All of that passion and sex, who wouldn’t chase his assistant around the office?
Personally, I don’t think Gingrich is sincere about running. You bet he was serious when he gave Sarah Palin the advice to stick a toe in the water now and then,as if you’re truly considering a run for office, and watch your speaking fees raise each time. That’s one financial policy which has worked out nicely for both of them.
O’Donnell translates the evasion proclamation into ‘real speak’ and offers Newt’s current wife the best advice she’ll ever receive.
