Ultra conservative opportunists Newt Gingrich and Laura Schlessinger may rue the day they converted to ‘conservative’ Catholicism.

While it has been widely thought that the Catholic Church was a beacon of right-wing conservatism, Lawrence O’Donnell has the results of a survey which show that Catholics are more tolerant and approving of gay and lesbian rights including marriage. Perhaps most shocking, a majority feel that churches have been the cause of many gay and lesbian suicides.

The results of the survey are eye-opening. It appears that the Catholics are coming to an understanding of the perfection of people as they are, while the fundamentalist crowd, exemplified by Sarah Palin, feel that these children of God are imperfect and should be shamed as second class citizens.
