Gold: House Majority Leader Eric Cantor wants you to know that he walks the walk when it comes to fiscal responsibility. No hand-outs for hurricane Irene damage are needed or wanted says he, not when he can do his corporate donors a favor by nipping silly and unnecessary projects right in the bud! Your definition of ‘silly and unnecessary’ may vary wildly from Cantor’s, do you suppose he believes that we’re buying this story – or cares?
Silver: Senator Roberto Arango of Puerto Rico has resigned. What’s a photogenic guy to do? Arango told his parents that he was documenting his weight loss. Somehow explicit photos of him surfaced on an iPhone application for gays and bisexuals. To play devil’s advocate, he wasn’t sending unsolicited photos, but that is a moot point, as he now has amnesia about the pictures, saying "I really don’t remember taking them." There’s a lot of that going around in political circles.
Bronze: The Obama Administration. There is a great protest and bru-ha-ha going on. The environmentally minded feel that no good can come of a tar sand pipeline full of heated sludge, running from Alaska to Texas. While I’m certain it has wider implications, for now let us just imagine that they are two consenting states, who are we to judge if someone is making big money from it somewhere?
