Instead of using his transition time to heal and unite the nation, Trump targeted John Lewis, civil rights icon – in a series of personal insults. Seth takes a closer look at how Lewis, verbalizing the frustration and anxiety felt by many over Russian hacking and interference in our election became a target, by stating that Trump is not a ‘legitimate president.’
Lewis is not alone in his concern over Russian hacking and many unanswered questions about Trump. That said, daring to express an opinion made Lewis the target of Trump’s immediate, racist tweets. By Trump’s third opus, Pence stepped in, his role as Trump translator, now polished to the point where, “Go F**k yourself” becomes ‘He’s just inviting you to engage in some constructive self-love,’ quips Meyers.
Also frustrating is Republican amnesia! Spokesmen for the GOP have the temerity to argue that no one disputed President Obama’s legitimacy when he was elected! Some have gone so far as to say they cannot even imagine the backfire if anyone had questioned Obama’s legitimacy! I agree, what if someone – for instance, had implied that Obama hadn’t been born in the U.S.? It’s a ridiculous idea…But the GOP has no one at their disposal who would even think of such a thing!
Some Republicans also think that Democrats cannot speak about Russian hacking, when they hired Mexican soap stars and entertainers to campaign in Nevada…Same thing!
If you think that bit was Mucho Loco hold onto something while Elizabeth Warren questions Ben Carson.
Warren: Among the billions you’re responsible for handing out can you assure us not one dollar will benefit the President or his family? Carson – in an unconscious bit of honesty : It will not be my intention to benefit ANY American.
Seth: This is as close as we’re going to get for a mission statement for the Trump Administration.
