While we struggle with cutting programs which would continue to provide a modest meals to starving children, this is a truly remarkable look at a country which somehow provides better chefs, food, and hygiene than we have in our higher priced restaurants; and they do it for each and every child who attends a public school- whether they can pay or not.
I realize that many Americans don’t give a flip what goes on in France. After all, it is a miserable country. Everyone goes on vacation in August – the entire month. The go out walking at night! They fritter public funds on health care – for everyone. Now we learn that there is no disinterested lunch lady ladling goo on the plates of only those who can afford it, but that children are nourished beyond the comprehension of many Americans, and seem to learn that mealtimes are for regeneration and socialization.
Getting back to the gist of the story, these odd people seem to work to live, rather than live to work. Is it any wonder our two cultures cannot understand one another? And what is the loudest cry from Republicans? No failed European socialism here! Ever!
