Mr Singer misses the third rail of American Violent Exceptionalism, our fondness for executions. Jesus appears down here in Huntsville, Texas a few times each month to help pull the switch to execute some poor soul. Then he stops at a gun shop to buy a Bushmaster and a couple 40 round clips on his way to a Alamo gun rally that is dedicated to denying health care to the poor and the sick.
It is what we have allowed Jesus to become BY NOT SPEAKING UP TO THIS ONEROUS CRAP. Politicians and the media are so consumed with votes and share, they are afraid to confront how ugly and mean American Christianity has become. It is way past time to give this ugly crap a kick in the ass.
American Exceptionalism is about God / Jesus loving Americans more than God / Jesus love anyone else. I am sure that is in the Bible somewhere. But no matter where it comes from, that is what it is about.
Even though it is hard to argue the difference between what is behind American Exceptionalism and the German Exceptionalism of the 1930s and 1940s, we must accept it, even the President is required to mention it now and again.
I suppose what makes us so exceptional to the rest of the world is the gungoonery and the wars. An uncivilized violent gang of swaggering armed reprobates.
The most ubiquitous, visible and talked about celebration of your propensity to violence are the guns. The Gun Culture. No where like it in the world other than parts of Central Africa and the Middle East.
We hate those socialist Europeans – which includes New Zealand and Australia. We are in a cold war with China, competing with the Pacific Rim and we consider all of Africa full of untouchables. Which pretty much leaves us only in tune with the Middle East theocracies.
Oh and India, we like Indians. Well, unless come here in person to talk funny rather than just on the phone.
