Hear those cash registers jingling, sales are brisk. In fact, sales of weapons are up – both to new owners, and to current owners adding to their collections. The latter are often much like Colton Barnes who left behind a frightful collection after his spree last weekend where several lost their lives, and none gave him reason to ‘protect himself’ with his rather extensive Rambo Home Kit.
Who is it we fear? Lawrence O’Donnell points out that violent crime is down, and I’ll draw verbal fire when I say that the number would be lower if we had fewer like Colton Barnes who continually stockpile, and in one way or another are responsible for our violent crime numbers. Get real America, these aren’t people concerned with home protection – quite the contrary.
Politicians aren’t above impressing this crowd. On WHO-AM radio in Iowa, Bachmann stunned the talk jocks for a moment when she brought up childhood memories. Seemingly out of nowhere she spouted, "I went through gun safety when I was 12. My favorite is an AR-15," Bachmann said. "I scored the best of my class of any of the men, too." The WHO host was impressed.
"That’s a combat weapon!" he said, referring to the AR-15, which is the civilian version of the US Military’s go-to M-16. Bachmann explained the semi-automatic assault weapon reflects her personality. "I like being accurate," Bachmann said. "And that is a great gun." Gosh! It’s just good ol’ American fun, and apparently an important quality in a Presidential candidate.
