Republican anti-drug thug Mitch McConnell has powdered egg (I presume) on his face, today after a family owned freighter was found to be carrying 90 pounds of cocaine.
Just as those who fight against the sexual freedom of others, are secretly the kinkiest freaks in the Senate, so too is Mitch McConnell known for his actions to ban drugs, including marijuana for any reason! I can only conclude that McConnell feels that drugs must be kept out of the hands of the ‘little people’ who would just fritter their welfare money away on them.
On the other hand, multimillionaires who trade in drugs know what they’re doing, and put the money to good use. Financing campaigns would be one excellent use I gather…And as we know, in politics the end always justifies the means.
Sadly evidence may never be found of a direct connection between the millions given to McConnell and the drug trade of his extraordinarily wealthy in-laws. There is no doubt that McConnell married into a powerfully wealthy family. He married up. He did well for himself, as they say – and hey – what’s up with that?! You have seen Mitch McConnell, I presume. His wife was in a position to pick and choose…I leave you to wonder if the man has charms we have not yet glimpsed, in his earnest role as protector of morals.
As you know, McConnell isn’t a poverty case. The Kentucky senator has a few million of his own, and that is why this case may come to nothing. It may not be possible to prove whether the gifted millions went to his campaign, or for a few little personal baubles n’ such. To borrow an example from John Oliver: It’s like peeing in the corner of the pool, the pee is in the pool, but it’s impossible to trace it in such a large body of water.
The freighter is owned by the family of McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao. Imagine how much McConnell’s powerful in-laws must love their dashing son-in-law, to lavish him with such lavish monetary gifts! The nitty gritty of the family connection – and their great generousity to McConnell follows, with thanks to Politico.
McConnell and his wife: …received a personal gift from a family member worth between $5 million and $25 million, according to his annual financial disclosure report, which was released on Friday morning. The gift came from Chao’s father, Dr. James S.C. Chao, a wealthy Chinese-born businessman, and it boosted McConnell’s personal worth from a minimum of $3 million in 2007 to more than $7 million. “That was a gift from Secretary Chao’s father in April 2008 to the Senator and the Secretary, in memory of her mother, who passed away in August 2007,” said Don Stewart, McConnell’s spokesman. Ruth Mulan Chu was a historian. Gifts of any value from family members to senators are permitted under Senate ethics rules.
While he invested the bulk of the money, McConnell used a portion of the gift to pay off a $100,000-plus mortgage on a Washington, D.C. home, and it more than offset significant losses suffered by the couple in their stock portfolio, the records show.
