Pot is now legal in Washington, Colorado, Oregon, Alaska and de facto in California, with another 18 states having passed medical and decriminalization laws, leaving us with yet another one of those American slavery lookalike maps from 1860. Which gives us a pretty good idea of where the 700,000 arrests per year happen and where the 40,000 presently in prison are wasting away. It was the land of white gravy that was last to stop slavery, last to put away Jim Crow, last to rise up from racism, last to give equal protection to gays, last in education, last in health care, last in decriminalizing pot. But first in divorce, first in domestic violence, first in obesity, first in guns and of course that whole ugly package wrapped with first in Jesus.
To be fair this piece is not so much a Bushwhack as it is a plea to President Obama to pardon those 40,000 pot smokers in prison, you know, because Barack, it’s the right thing, to do.
I think there is a down side to the legalization movement that puts unified legalization in jeopardy. We need to rethink legalizing over the counter sales of ingestable marijuana. Kids are getting into it, it’s sending adults to emergency rooms and is giving the confederate states a valid argument we should not be handing them.
Too bad we must always bow to capitalism in all things. For the right answer to this is so very simple. Allow people to grow enough for their own consumption without having everyone from the seller to the state and inbetween having to make money on it. It is a weed after all, and any dufus can learn to grow it after spending a few hours on the net. Which might even make it possible for Mississippi to do.
And you know, if we can move as fast as we have legalizing pot and gay marriage, we could also do the same about guns if we put our minds to it. For the reality here in America that we all know to be true, is that it is not ISIS, al Qaeda, Muslims, Russians, or atheists that we are so afraid of we no longer let our kids out of our sight or take a walk at night, it is gun enthusiasts.
