It’s unlikely that anyone would still be asking the dreaded question about Newt and Callista’s half million dollar jewelry account at Tiffany’s if he had been inclined to answer on Meet the Press 8 days ago. After years of sticking his nose into the truly private business of Democratic politicians, Gingrich seems to have no concept that certain questions are everyone’s business when you are running for president of the United States.
Because Gingrich is so dickheadly and secretive, he met the question again from Bob Schieffer on ‘Face the Nation’ Sunday, saying only that "It is my private life." There was no hint as to why the couple had the enormous bill at the prestigious jeweler, but Gingrich assures us that we are in good hands. Perhaps he purchased a half million dollars worth of jeweled flag lapel pins?
Newt says he and his wife have a "reasonably good income. "If the U.S. government was as debt-free as I am, everybody in America would be celebrating." We’ll just have to take his word for it.
