Roy Wood Jr plays the satirical card with the now regretful veto override of allowing American citizens to sue other countries. The bill passed the Senate 99 to 1 and the day after they overrode President Obama’s veto, 28 Senators signed a letter that their vote was a mistake and they wished they could take it back.
When I first heard about this I thought wow, here comes thousands of lawsuits from families in Pakistan who have had innocent loved ones droned to little pieces. Then add up families from all over the Middle East who suffered the same. And this goes back 15 years? How far back can it go? Can a few million citizens of Laos sue America for dropping more bombs on them and their families than all sides did in WW2? And as Roy Wood Jr plays it, can Black Americans sue every country that was involved in slavery?
This ill advised vote comes as part of the “American Exceptionalism” problem, that God and Jesus has seen fit to make us better and more important than anyone else, causing us ignore the ability of any other nation to respond effectively to what we do. NAFTA, TTP, Iran deal, redoing all our trade deals? You see, we will get what we want while the other countries will just bow down and capitulate to our wants. Why would we think that? Because we are exceptional.
