I know my nets! I can throw a good cast net, I have used seine nets, I worked boats with gill nets, I have worked boats with shrimp nets and a TAD [the door that releases sea turtles] and I have lived inside mosquito nets. In all such cases getting through the net is a good thing. It’s a win. On the other hand, when it comes to people, falling through a net is not good at all.
How big is the spacing in America’s social safety net? We are 35th in infant mortality. Even Cuba beats us. Any doubt in your mind why that is? It’s easy enough to understand… Infants are not yet able to understand Republican bootstrap speeches. And millions of older children and adults fall through the large holes because they have heard it all before.
Perhaps the biggest difference between us and Europe is the spacing of our nets.
