Donald Trump is getting ready to lose by blaming his fall in the polls on everyone other than himself, adding that the presidential election is rigged against him, Trevor Noah agrees it is rigged, but rigged for him rather than against him by Republican gerrymandering and voter suppression. What The Daily Show missed in this piece is that there rigging is already going on by the Russians in his favor as we have already seen in the DNC email hack, which The Donald responded to by asking the Russians to do more of it.
Republican voter suppression goes without saying, as one court after another in one state after another has thrown out recent Republican voting laws saying such laws were specifically designed to suppress minority voters by requiring IDs they know they do not have, reducing early voting which they use more than white people and closing polls on Sundays which black churches use to help get out the vote. In fact Republicans have repeatedly gotten caught bragging about what they are doing.
Though gerrymandering can be said to be nonpartisan, it is the Republicans who win that battle as they control the most state legislatures which draw the maps, perpetuating the problem. There are two grand examples of how the GOP dominates the gerrrymandering business.
First was the national results of the 2012 election where Democrats received 1.4 million more votes for House Representatives than Republicans but Republicans won control of the House by a 234 to 201 margin.
Secondly is Pennsylvania, which is three points more Democrat than the national average and President Obama won by 5 points in 2012 with the result of the Republicans having 13 of the 18 congressional seats.
Gerrymanding by Democrats is mostly about trying to keep some black faces in congress rather than none.
