The tension between the supporters of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders threatens to tear the Democratic party apart – or not, Seth Meyers takes a closer look at the Democratic party’s primary race and reminds us that we’ve been here before. Some of us have voter amnesia – perhaps intentionally, when we recall the 2008 presidential race which pit Hillary Clinton against Barack Obama. Vengeful Hillary supporters threatened to vote for the power couple McCain and PALIN if Hillary didn’t win the nomination. Really, who wants to remember that fit of pique? Looking back, Hillary recalls that we came together against McCain, and we most assuredly will do the same to stop Trump. We will – won’t we?
In looking back, Meyers shows a clip from 2008, to show just how divided the party was. The last interview is a gem. Larry King interviews Elizabeth Joyce of the emphatically named ‘Just Say NO Coalition.’ who seems to be confused about whether she’s voting for president, or forging a lifetime commitment.
“I’m a good Catholic girl from Boston, Massachusetts, and I don’t vote on the first date. I’m a tiny – tiny bit open but my ballot box is closed! My vote is my own, my vote is my choice, my vote is precious and it needs to be earned. Period the end. I just don’t give it away!”
I’ll bet she’s still waiting for ‘the one.’
