I reminder of what gay Congressman Barney Frank had to say about this week’s Supreme Court decisions. He said he would trade the gay marriage rights decision for the Voting Rights Act decision.
The new hole in the Voting Rights Act is enormous affecting not only tens of millions of people, but democracy and also celebrates Southern racism.
As every Southern state – and the rest of the Republican controlled states to now follow – will pass ever more restrictions on voting for blacks, browns, the poor and the young, the only hope democracy has is that it will cause an even larger backlash of voters getting to the polls than what happened in Florida last year. In fact last year because of all the voter suppression laws Republicans passed, African Americans nationally had a higher rate of voter participation than whites.
