Columnist Julie Mason reported upon two groups meeting at the same time in adjacent committee rooms at the National Press Club. Californians for Population Stabilization a radical anti-immigration group who claim there are 38 million illegal immigrants who need to be immediately rounded up, put in detention centers and be shipped back to Mexico. It was groups just like this during the Prop 187 days which turned California so Blue that Republican Presidential Candidates no longer bother with campaigning in our largest State. They think they have the winning issue in 2008.
In the next room Cable Network Telemundo met regarding the anti-immigrfation angst and how it was energizing Hispanic voters. Especially the half million who will turn 18 before November 5th. They think they have the winning issue in 2008.
Though I do not who is right, I do know that racial, ethnic and religious bigotry are at the center of what traditional, Christian, moral, family values mean in America. So it is probable that this will be the central issue of the 2008 election once it goes party a party.
What with the war and endless examples of that corrosive social Republican hypocrisy on the front page. What with having been proved wrong on every environmental issue they have set voice to. What with refusing to do anything about health care other than ideological screeching about socialism. Perhaps creating a federal police force to break in homes and businesses to haul 38 million Hispanic looking men women and children into black vans, concentrate them into old barracks surrounded by razor wire while they wait to be deported is a winner. We are what we are.
Here is a typical Houston Chronicle Letter to the Editor. This one applauds the anger and violence of anti-immigration demonstrators in Irving Texas which recently put their police force into the job of rounding up Mexican looking people:
Keep up Good Work, Irving
Hats off to the city of Irving for not participating in the sanctuary setup that so many cities are condoning. I hope that Irving will stand up to opposition and keep doing what is right for its residents. If my husband and I were to relocate, Farmers Branch and Irving would be among the first choices on our list because we are proud when communities stand up for the safety of their families. Keep up the good work!
