Many Americans believe that it’s much too easy for immigrants to obtain American citizenship, and we should ‘close the borders.’ Here’s something to think about. If born Americans were asked to pass the same test given to immigrants, wouldn’t you expect the American born people to pass? After all, we’ve all taken history and civics classes in school, we should pretty much ace this one! Think about (Professor ) Cliven Bundy who now has his own video teaching outlet, explaining all things American to his fellows. If flunking meant deportation…What a delicious thought!
You may be surprised at the results of a random test of American born people, given by the Immigrant Archive Project. They took to the streets of Miami and interviewed 15 American born people. To pass, they had only to get 6 of 10 questions right. The results are amazing. Only 1 of the 15 passed the test. By contrast, 95.8 percent of foreign test takers passed in 2010. I can’t help but notice that several people are misinformed on the same questions. For instance: Many seem to think that Susan B. Anthony was a well-known seamstress. No one mentioned Betsy Ross or her occupation. Historical figures aren’t the only ones Americans have trouble placing. Asked to name our current Vice President , some have no clue…There are your non-voters – grab ’em!
Others present a whimsical view of our country’s history, placing JFK at the penning of the Declaration of Independence, others see him in the Oval office during WW1, and yet another history buff believes George Washington presided over that battle.
