I have been one of the few White Boys screeching that racism is the driving force of these Birther Bashes, Tea Parties and Congressman heckling the President. Yesterday I was joined by Jonathan Alter from Newsweek who talked about this on Rachel Maddow Show.
Then there was Maureen Dowd a few days ago with her "You lie, boy!" column listing the cracker credentials of Joe Wilson. Boy Oh Boy at NYT
What I heard was an unspoken word in the air: You lie, boy!
The outburst was unexpected from a milquetoast Republican backbencher from South Carolina who had attracted little media attention. Now it has made him an overnight right-wing hero, inspiring “You lie!” bumper stickers and T-shirts.
The congressman, we learned, belonged to the Sons of Confederate Veterans, led a 2000 campaign to keep the Confederate flag waving above South Carolina’s state Capitol and denounced as a “smear” the true claim of a black woman that she was the daughter of Strom Thurmond, the ’48 segregationist candidate for president. Wilson clearly did not like being lectured and even rebuked by the brainy black president presiding over the majestic chamber.
And to cap it off a former President of the United States saying the same.
I live in Texas where I know that racism is the driving force of this ObamaHate. In other regions it may not be majority thought, but it is very substantial.
There is no way anyone can convince me these Birther and Tea Party kind of people are not driven by racism. I know better.
My God, each week I receive a few email-go-arounds full of N-Jokes, Obama as a monkey, Obama’s kids in a watermelon patch, Obama and the First lady with plates in their lips and rings in their nose. And that’s from my college graduate fiends in Wisconsin!
Down here in Dumbutt in private conversation its a constant barrage of the N-word. I am amazed how far removed so many media pundits are from reality. It’s time they left their wine tasting parties and fashion boutiques and got down to the Ice House and the Wal*mart.
But hold everything! I just watched Joe Scarborough this morning say there is no racism in any of this, and if there is it is tiny and insubstantial.
Well, I suppose that’s that then.
After all Joe is a former congressman from the Florida Panhandle which is perhaps the most right-wing, reactionary racist doctor back shooting ignorant cracker invested area in America. It makes Dumbutt, Texas and Knuckledrag, Oklahoma seem progressive.
Scarborough’s spurious dishonest arugument is typical of how these kind of people think. That because Bill Clinton and George W Bush where also vilified when they were president, then the vilification of an African American President cannot be considered racism.
The sad thing about that is the kind of people Joe is speaking to do not have the intellectual capacity to understand what crap that is. After all, Logic is a college course, not a middle school one.
Here is the Scarborough Argument from our old Logic class:
Premise #1: People hate White Presidents.
Premise #2: People hate Black Presidents.
Conclusion: People are not racists.
