Third party candidates want to be serious contenders, so John Oliver gives them the serious consideration due to a potential president of the United States. The feeling often stated in this election is that voters are selecting the lesser of two evils. Mind…Those who feel the two ‘evils’ are equivalent in nature or degree deserve a separate column devoted just to them; but as John points out, the choice may actually be the lesser of four ‘evils.’
It is worth taking a closer look at the two leading third-party candidates Libertarian Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein. While it would be wonderful to find a third party candidate to love, Johnson and Stein don’t hold up to the slightest scrutiny. It would be dangerous to choose Johnson based solely on his pro-marijuana stance, and just as careless to vote for Jill Stein based on her rockin’ environmental album. Both candidates offer overly simple solutions that could have disastrous effects. For one, this pair makes me almost believe that ‘Joe Exotic’ – who clearly needs the money, might just be our best pick this year.
