I think it was Bill Clinton who coined the phrase, compartmentalize. It means you put stuff in different compartments in your head and CLOSE THE DOOR until the proper time and audience.
Jon Stewart dealing with Bill O’Reilly in this kindly fashion is a good lesson for those few of us living South of Indianapolis. Well down here anywhere other than deep inside some urban loop anyway. If we did not put our liberal views in a closed compartment, we would have no friends to speak of.
Coming down here from outside the South is initially quite enjoyable. A whole new culture, new food, interesting things to see, A CHANGE! And not to forget the most important factor, not freezing your nuts off. At first we tend to ignore the politics and keep our mouths shut. But as the years pass it all gets old.
Thought we know to keep our LIBERAL compartment shut, sometimes, after a few beers with an unusually obtuse cracker – in front of others- the door swings wide open, and out comes a STAND UP IN YOUR FACE passionate stream of questioning someone’s intelligence and sanity. To no good end I might add as I sit alone writing this.
