Jon Stewart isn’t sold on the idea that we can put the terrible tragedy in South Carolina behind us and begin to heal, once a Confederate flag comes down in Charleston, North Carolina. Stewart expresses the view that this might even be an opportunity to discuss a complex variety of unexamined issues that fester in this country. You know he’s chock full of irony of course. Talk like that will get you a face full of umbrage from Fox, where they condemn “The race to politicize the senseless South Carolina killings,” while doing that very thing. They aren’t finished politicizing yet, so we’ll have no talk of other issues which could cloud their own obfuscation.
While it’s highly exciting for everyone who signed a petition to see the treasonous flag being lowered, Jon brings us back down to reality. The entire city of Charleston is a monument to the Civil War and slavery. The streets are named after a pro-slavery maniac, Civil War museums display holy relics and monuments abound. Jon aptly describes the city as ‘Confederate Epcot.’
