On Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, IT really hits the fan when Mexican citizens express their feelings about President Enrique Pena Nieto! To say Mexico’s current President is unpopular is an understatement, and from this report, he has certainly earned the hostility of the people.
Citizens of Mexico are understandably tired of corruption scandals, massacres and mass poverty. The tone-deaf government erred by addressing those concerns via a You-tube video which essentially told the Mexican people (roughly translated) to ‘shut up and stop your complaining!’
I’m happy to report, that our neighbors to the south did not shut up, nor did they stop complaining! In fact, the video inspired Mexican citizens to take their numerous complaints to Twitter with the hashtag #YACHOLE – or ‘ENOUGH.’
One creative person designed a very simple and effective emoji which expresses the feelings of the opposition eloquently. Seen last, has a similar effect to that of saving the most impressive fireworks display for the explosive grand finale. I won’t be a spoiler, because you’ll really want to see it for yourself, but I will quote John’s reaction to it.
“A government should know that when they tell people to shut up and stop complaining, that ‘it’ is eventually going to blow up in your face.”
