On Last Week Tonight, John Oliver talks about a recent attempt to cripple the working poor by Prime Minister David Cameron, and how help for the poor came from an unexpected quarter…Odder still, the entire thing is wrapped up with Andrew Lloyd Webber and a shaved, captive Donnie Osmond!
In the Bible it says (roughly translated) that the poor will always be with us. The thought might well have ended with; ‘and the rich will always be greedy dickheads.’ Cameron, still smarting from the hog’s head revelation (I assume) decided to trim the fat from the budget by eliminating tax cuts for three million Britons, who are mainly working mothers. Isn’t it amazing how very alike our two forms of government truly are? To assure his plan would fly, Cameron contacted lords near and far – the latter describes Andrew Lloyd Webber who hied himself to London from New York, to help further impoverish Britain’s working class. Any resemblance between Webber and Dr. Seuss’s Grinch is purely coincidental – as far as I’m aware.
If you’re a fan of theater, you really must appreciate British government. In a room with gilded ceilings, sumptuous red leather upholstery and the trappings of ancient ceremony – the House of Lords smacked down Cameron’s tax reform, declaring – in cultured tones, “It smacks of class warfare.”
John Oliver feels the bigger offense was done to Israeli children (and to us) years ago by Andrew Lloyd Webber – see photo inset of a shaved, shirtless Donny Osmond, and be sure to view John’s video for much more of the story!
