On Last Night, Seth Meyers creates hilarious, fresh memes to help the US government fight increasing ISIS recruitment of young people through social media. If you’ve ever asked yourself what moves a comfortable American teen to join a bossy terrorist group, we finally have an answer – memes! It’s true…ISIS has the entire social media spectrum sewn up. Not only did we see it on ‘Nightline’ but the government is holding official meetings to figure out how to reach the kids via social media stuff too. Just last Thursday lawmakers gathered to brainstorm at a meeting hosted by Homeland Security called : ‘Jihad 2.0 Social Media in the Next Evolution of Terrorist Recruitment.’
Sen. Cory Booker took the lead, because he ‘knows something about memes, and how to make them go viral’ and can clearly see how ‘fancy’ their memes are compared to what we’re not doing. Is Booker just a show-off and a malcontent? Perhaps he doesn’t recognize that the State Department is ahead of the curve with a leading edge Twitter campaign. Visit the anti-jihad account, #ThinkAgain_DOS and you will see tweets like this from John Kerry, commending the “remarkable commitment and sacrifice” of AMISOM’s troop contributing countries in Somalia.’
While it’s nice to be nice, and I applaud Kerry’s intentions, the Twitter program is not setting social media on fire. Surely we have people in the United States who are more tuned in to popular culture, who could take charge of the anti-ISIS program?
While the government plots strategies, Seth has designed: “Helpful memes if you’re on the fence about joining ISIS”
You do not want to cross ‘the Soup Nazi’ from the Jerry Seinfeld Show, if you join ISIS it’s “No Soup for You”
‘The Most Interesting Man in the World’ from Dos Equis – says: “I don’t always feel disillusioned with western culture, but when I do – I don’t join terrorist organizations.”
and obviously Media will put you down if you even think about it.
“You joined URSIS? Put the shut to the up.”
Using memes to show what ISIS does NOT offer is a good idea too.
We see cat memes every day. A wide-eyed asks:
‘I can’t haz pork?’
Kermit the Frog : “You wanna sweat your balls off in the back of a Toyota pickup for the next five years BUT THAT’S NONE OF MY BUSINESS.
