At a photo shoot with ACLU’s Voting Rights Project Director Dale Ho, ACLU voting rights ambassador and comedian Lewis Black gets extremely f#%!in’ tired of politicians trying to deny people the right to vote. But – isn’t it illegal to deny people the right to vote? It is, but they still try – and sometimes it works, as Lewis Black finds out.
In an attempt to steer elections by keeping the ‘wrong’ voters out, North Carolina slashed a week of early voting. Who can forget the long, long lines in Florida. People literally waited all day to vote after officials closed all but a very few polls, hoping voters would give up and go home. I’m very happy to report that they did not go home, they waited. Another costly election bugaboo…Poll taxes
aren’t the stuff of yesterday. The Supreme Court recently blocked Wisconsin’s voter ID law. In Texas, a federal judge struck down the state’s voter ID law, calling it an “unconstitutional poll tax.”
There is much more, and Black is steaming mad by the time the photo is taken. “Elected Officials shouldn’t get to chose who gets to choose elected officials!” The ACLU is fighting against bad voter suppression laws across the country. Make sure you know your rights. https://www.aclu.org/letmevote
It’s extremely shocking to read the comments beneath this video. Far too many comm enters would have you believe that this is just more “libtard” propaganda, and there has never been a problem with access to voting. Apparently they can find Youtube, but are stymied as to the whereabouts of Google. I suppose selective blindness caused many during WW 2 in Germany to say that there was nothing amiss in the ‘compounds’ out in the country, or the increased train traffic.
Lewis Black nailed it. “People marched and fought and died for the right to vote, and they want to legislate that away to stay in power – not on MY watch, baby! “
