Who knows, perhaps this isn’t entirely about safety? Maybe Mitt would like to feel the wind through his hair as his Lear jet streaks across the sky? Mitt Romney suffered a setback among the flight safety demographic, and others with common sense and a basic understanding of aeronautics today.
Referring to his wife’s close call and emergency landing due to fire on board this weekend, Romney made a bizarre and puzzling statement to the Los Angeles Times. Romney said the biggest problem in a distressed aircraft is that “the windows don’t open. I don’t know why they don’t do that. It’s a real problem. So it’s very dangerous.”
Rachel Maddow has graciously allowed that Romney could have been joking, but no signs of levity were present. There was no pause for laughter, or the trademark ‘ha HA hahaha ha ha’ we’ve come to recognize as a sign that he’s made a funny. I tend to think he simply made an honest comment – so rare, and yet so damaging these days!
