Never in my wildest dreams did I ever expect to agree with America’s most popular extreme right-wing political cartoonist, but perhaps without understanding it, Ramirez hit the nail on the head with this caption of Colin Kaepernick sitting through the bombs bursting in air song. You know like Hiroshima and Nagasaki at 1500 exploding 1500 feet in the air, much higher than the substance for the Star Spangled Banner.
But praise the Lord there is a very simple answer to this problem by just changing one word in our US CODE. Which I am sure would be one of the many things Donald Trump would say and his followers are thinking. Especially when it’s a ______ [fill this in as to your geography]
36 U.S. Code § 301 – National anthem
(a)Designation.—The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.
(b)Conduct During Playing.—During a rendition of the national anthem—(1) when the flag is displayed—
(A) individuals in uniformshouldwill give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note;
(B) members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute in the manner provided for individuals in uniform; and
(C) all other persons presentshouldwill face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and
(2) when the flag is not displayed, all presentshouldwill face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.
Had Google trouble finding mandatory stand up laws for national anthems in the world today, could that be because their are none? Not sure, but we could begin the process by following the lead of India where over a billion people are required to at listen to their national anthem before every sporting event and every movie. And they do a lot of movie going, let me tell you.
