Montana, along with Wyoming and Idaho, the trifecta of the Northern Confederacy, are all rural, all white and all looking up to North and South Dakota for a glimpse of civilization.
The Democrats, the Republicans and the media including much of Fox News is up in arms with Republican Gianforte beating up a reporter.
So many sheep so little time…
I suppose the most immediate question – that will be answered tonight – is with polls showing a tight race with Gianforte ahead of the Democrat by only a few points will this get him more support or less support?
Next comes the question of whether Donald Trump is responsible for this kind of thing happening to THE MEDIA. Which he has not only defined as the enemy of America but egged people on to violence against them. You know the President of the United States inciting violence against reporters. This question is interesting because now we are seeing a Republican split, a separation between Republicans / conservatives from Trump supporters.
Then of course what would be worse for Republicans, this guy winning or losing?
From the Sheriff:
Multiple interviews and an investigation … it was determined there was probable cause to issue a citation to Greg Gianforte for misdemeanor assault.”
From the Gainforte campaign:
“Tonight, as Greg was giving a separate interview in a private office, The Guardian’s Ben Jacobs entered the office without permission, aggressively shoved a recorder in Greg’s face, and began asking badgering questions,” Scanlon said. “Jacobs was asked to leave. After asking Jacobs to lower the recorder, Jacobs declined. Greg then attempted to grab the phone that was pushed in his face. Jacobs grabbed Greg’s wrist, and spun away from Greg, pushing them both to the ground. It’s unfortunate that this aggressive behavior from a liberal journalist created this scene at our campaign volunteer BBQ.”
From the Fox News crew present at the scene:
Gianforte grabbed Jacobs by the neck with both hands and slammed him into the ground behind him. Faith, Keith and I watched in disbelief as Gianforte then began punching the man, as he moved on top the reporter and began yelling something to the effect of “I’m sick and tired of this!”
From the two local papers:
“The Republican candidate for Congress not only lost the endorsement of this newspaper Wednesday night when, according to witnesses, he put his hands around the throat of a reporter asking him about his health care stance, threw him to the ground and punched him — he should lose the confidence of all Montanans.”
“We’re pulling our endorsement of Greg Gianforte” said the headline in the Billings Gazette.
I put my money on a win bigger than the polls project.
