The Oscar nominations are out and they are so white, a grand jury has refused to indict them.
The first words out of the box did not get much airplay this morning. What did get the media attention is that even black Larry Wilmore dissed the most hated man in America Al Sharpton, “Can’t we get anyone else to represent us?” THAT’S NEWS! Will we ever hear the end of that from Fox News. TV’s most popular Whitework.
Viacom has seen fit, so far anyway, to not put any video clips of the show up at Comedy Central. This is a youtube video, and it being Viacom which is the whore of cable, it may not be up long enough for you to see it. So here’s hoping.
Though this is the first show and the format could change, it seems for now it will be an opening monologue much like other Late Night shows but with Larry sitting down and kicking at the issues with a bigger boot. Then comes the meat of the show which is a round table panel with four guests. Last night it was two blacks, an Hispanic and a white guy married to a black. The format is most like Real Time with Bill Maher than anything else.
The first show was all about race, and tonight’s show will be all about race with the Bill Cosby theme. I would guess the panels will be mostly black with a token white or two. It also is far more cerebral than either the Colbert Show, the Daily show or anything he is up against on the other networks, so I don’t know if any white people at all will watch it. Well other than Fox News monitoring it to make headlines from anything bad a black guy has to say about other black people. You know, like why Fox News stands behind Bill Cosby.
I think Larry Wilmore may find himself going down the same political road as Stephen Colbert. Colbert began thinking he could take shots at both sides, try to hold the middle, but as the show progressed and he sawand learned more about the dark hearts and small minds on the Right, he veered off to become the most striking liberal voice of late night.
