A program called “Share the Safety” which is a cooperative venture between the NRA and Smith & Wesson, will give a gun to someone in a poor urban area whenever a special edition handgun is purchased, beginning July 4th.
The ‘Share Our Safety’ program believes that law-abiding citizens in poor urban centers deserve to feel the pride of weapons ownership, and should have the ability to defend themselves. These concerned Americans know that the urban poor are crippled by profiling and institutional prejudice, and feel that only when every urban family is armed, will America be truly free.
If you go to the website www.ShareTheSafety.org you too may wonder what Smith & Wesson and the NRA have to gain with this program. The site certainly looks authentic, and sets the mind reeling…Mine certainly was!
I found the creators of the video and website are called ‘The Yes Men’ and found they not only make faux ads such as this, but they set up very convincing websites to back them up and fool gullible people – like myself. They’re rewarded for their efforts when an organization sees the bogus message and contacts them to give a speech, unaware that the true intention of the duo is to undermine them. They are reaching out to pro-gun lobby and government organizations which fleece the public or harm the environment.
Needless to say, while ‘The Yes Men’ are invited in, they’re often quickly escorted out of the door. If you know anyone in the NRA, you might mention some dynamite speakers, who’d love to address their group!
