It’s your favorite spy agency with a side order of jokes that are bound to be with us unless or until this latest threat to our security and freedom blows over. It is confusing. When the Patriot Act first entered our lives, it was accepted and even embraced (by many) as a necessary measure taken by Dubya to preserve our ‘security and freedom.’
Fast forward to the present day. Our ‘security and freedom’ are in peril – because of The Patriot Act and all of those snoopy agents at the NSA and other government alphabet soup agencies. What has changed other than the name on the White House mailbox? Americans are now fully awake to the intrusion, and seem convinced that an agent is listening in, or reading every word written or uttered. Either we should be paranoid, or – more likely, the boredom threshold of NSA agents is vastly overrated.
