Seth Meyers takes a closer look at President Obama’s controversial trip to Cuba, and examines the motivations for his visit, as well as expectations Raul Castro had for meeting with the first US President to set foot in eighty years on the Land that Time Forgot. Cuba is such a time capsule that Obama is seen being flown in by Doc Brown from the movie ‘Back to the Future.” It is an amazing juxtaposition to see Air force One flying over streets dotted with vintage vehicles from the forties and fifties…When cars were made of iron, not the expensive, generic-looking plastic we’ve become accustomed to wearing. For vintage car lovers and cigar aficionados, opening Cuba is a dream come true…An erotic dream according to one cigar fancier.
The awkward and uncomfortable photo of Obama and Castro kind of shaking arms is understandable. Our President is currently being castigated for standing in a large group photo, with a with a mural of Che Guevara visible in the far background. If he actually shook hands with Castro, heads would explode on the right. Gosh, Obama!
Certainly Cuba will benefit economically by opening up to the world. They have nothing to fear but our friendship as I see it. Seth notes that a chain plans to refurbish hotels in Havana soon, and that it will bring on a second ‘bay of pigs’ as spring break celebrants head toward a new and exotic locale to trash. If you want to see Cuba, now is the time. McDonalds is sure to follow – with hordes of drunk Americans turning Cuba into what the world needs, another Daytona Beach.
