President Obama will make a copy of Tuesday’s address to school students, available to parents and educators in advance on Monday, so all will have time to review the material in advance. Sadly, it’s a waste of paper for far too many. They’ve long since decided to keep lil’ Daisy May, Duwayne, or George Jr home from school, rather than have them exposed to the President of the United States, encouraging them to do well in school, take responsibility, and set goals for their education, the horror!
A few moments ago, NPR announced that only one in four American adults read even one book last year! Newsweek’s Jonathan Alter joins Keith in discussing the many facets involved in the controversy surrounding what is in truth, a pep talk concerning education, and encouragement to students. Sadly, many parents have jumped on the paranoia express, and are following lock-step the directives of
the usual media bigmouths, who claim the address hides socialist brainwashing. It’s all the more a pity, as the parents who are keeping their children home, not only haven’t seen the address, only the explanation of what it contains. They’re
merely following lock-step the directives of Glenn Beck, Limbaugh, Malkin, and the entire anti-intellectual pantheon of olitical big-mouths who have much to gain by manipulatingand keeping their audience ignorant. There is much more at
work here than meets the eye. There is no respect for the office of president, and a suspicion which smells far too much like racism, though that claim is hotly denied. If it’s not, then how do you justify the presidential addresses described as follows ? I’m guessing that you may not recall two previous instances
when Republican presidents addressed students in the same way, I didn’t. There was no protest in the press or elsewhere. Prepare for a side ache when you hear the topics that Ronald Reagan and Daddy Bush addressed to their captive audience! There is much more to this extremely disturbing boycott, examined by Keith and Jonathan Alter. By the time you’ve seen the facts, I would be interested in which aspect you find the most disturbing?
