Rep. Maxine Waters D-CA , joins Keith to discuss newly elected GOP Congresswoman Lynn Jenkin’s recent comments in Kansas, that “Republicans are struggling right
now to find the Great White Hope.”
If you’re unaware of the racist connotations, Keith explains their origins which go back to the turn of the century, when a “negro” held the black heavy weight championship. His opponent – “The Great White Hope,” had more to win than just the fight, he was out to prove that a “white man was superior to a Negro.”That – is how recent and tenuous our progress has been!
While Jenkins made a cursory apology to anyone she may have offended, it has a hollow ring. I’m grateful that Maxine Waters brings a refreshing view, one that we’d all do well to remember, especially now, with the loss of our largest health
care reformer and friend of the average American, Sen.Ted Kennedy.Maxine Waters reminds us, just when we’d perhaps like to call them on racism, that our focus is on health care! They will do try to distract us with this and many other things, but in doing so will do nothing but reveal themselves….we all know that won’t be pretty, but we will be on task, our eyes on the prize.
