If price is an indication of value, then wee American babies are worth their weight in British Royals! This will be good news for ill-informed Americans who enjoy looking down their noses at ‘socialized medicine’ and the horror of it all.
As you can imagine, the Duchess of Cambridge brought the future king into the world in the poshest accommodations possible. We might well assume that it cost a fortune…And it did cost considerably more than the average birth in the U.K. but here’s the eye-opener. The royal hospital bill was approximately one half that of an uncomplicated American birth! The Royal birth cost $15 thousand dollars, an uncomplicated American birth costs $30 thousand, and if a caesarian section is needed the average cost is $50 thousand…And you go home with an adorable commoner. No castles or titles in his or her otherwise bright future.
Those who cannot afford health insurance in the U.S. and are not qualified for assistance, are expected to pay the whopping price. Ironically if they had that kind of money, they would purchased overpriced health insurance with it. Tough break, but I’m sure they’ll agree that having the freedom to evade oppressive socialized medicine is well worth the price.
