Seth Meyers takes a deep dive into the anti-government stand-off by armed militia yahoos, happening in Oregon.Perhaps the most astonishing announcement from Ammon Bundy came today when he compared himself to the great civil rights icon Rosa Parks. Ammon and his buddies carried guns to take over a deserted government building. Rosa Parks defied years of abuse and racism by refusing to move the back of the bus. I don’t know how I missed the connection myself.
Ammon is bummed by the lack of support from locals who think he and his pals are a pain in the neck. His interpretation is that they just aren’t strong enough to make a stand. That is horse feathers. A celebrity we’ll call Tarp Man made a ‘sit’ with them in a rocking chair, gun on his lap and blue plastic tarp covering him completely. The man was in hiding in an effort to foil efforts to pick him up on outstanding warrants. You will see him emerge like a butterfly from its cocoon, live on MSNBC. The boys are allegedly protesting the mandatory sentencing of friends and neighbors Dwight and Steven Hammond.
Oh, and for you good folks who heard the call to send snacks and energy drinks to the trapped and besieged boys, there’s good news. The militia has resupplied, and the emergency is under control
The militia believed they were under siege, but they were mistaken. In fact, law enforcement encouraged them to go into town, where they sat down at a local restaurant,had a nice dinner and laid in more supplies afterward. It’s tough to be at war, when the enemy refuses to play along.
