Pete Seeger passes, Tony Auth cartoon

Pete Seeger communist passes

Pete Seeger spent his entire life fighting for the least of us. His songs were about union, peace, love, civil rights and just being nice. He spend the 40s, 50s, and most of the 60s under the watch of HUAC and McCarthyism for his once communist ties in the thirties. Blackballed and even sentenced to 10 years in prison before he won an appeal.

You can tell he was a communist by the songs he sang and the words he wrote. We Shall Overcome was  the anthem of the Civil Rights movement, giving equal right to blacks.  Where Have all the Flowers Gone, the song of so many  young men dying in Vietnam. Kind, nice, beautiful songs of peace and social justice like If I had a Hammer.

It’s the hammer of Justice
The Bell of Freedom
It’s the song about love between
My brothers and my sisters
All over this land.

You can’t get any more communist that that! Just out of curiosity, can anyone come up with any comparable Republican lyrics to a song? Well beside Okie from Muskogee. Wait a minute, are there any Republican songs at all other than that one and Fighting Soldiers from the sky…
