There have been many photographs that have had great impact upon issues of the day. Once such photo of a little girl running down a road in horror after napalm had burned off her clothes helped put an end to our pretense in Vietnam.
On the other hand we have this photo which appeared upon the cover of TIME magazine this week which was specifically used to do the direct opposite. To extend our presence in Afghanistan – already our longest war – for another 10 years and beyond.
So now we have Republicans, the mainstream media, Neo Cons William Kristol using his Weekly Standard and Charles Kruthhammer his syndicated column, AIPAC – which is 2nd only to the AARP as the most powerful lobby in Washington – beating, no POUNDING the drum of extending the war in Afghanistan for ANOTHER 10 years. And to make it even worse we now have Christiane Amanpour picking up the beat of the Foreverwar.
Recently Christiane Amanpour quit CNN as a world traveling journalist to become the host of ABC’s Sunday morning show "This Week". In her first showing with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Amanpour waved this TIME cover at Pelosi’s and asked,
"Is America going to abandon the women of Afghanistan, the people of Afghanistan?’ she asked Pelosi."
Well so much for journalism! She’s a fast learner. Does this mean we do a decade of war, adding about a trillion dollars in debt and hundreds (or thousands of American lives) PER Afghan nose?
What if a photographer gets pictures of this same thing happening in dozens of other countries, some of them our allies? Do we have to invade them too? 10 years per nose or vagina trim?
To add insult to injury the day before Amanpour was using this photo as reason to stay in Afghanistan indefinitely, rioters in Kabul (the city we control and where they supposedly want us) threw rocks, burned American vehicles and carried on like a bunch of Tea Baggers, Momma Grizzlies, Pit Bulls, Pink Elephants, Beckians or whatever they are calling themselves this week.
The other night in Phoenix Lady GaGa did THE RIGHT THING by taking a minute in her concert to mention the fascist nature of SB1070. I am now NOMANAPOUR and all AGAGA.
We need a draft so we at least have a few people who will stand up and say HELL NO! I WONT GO! The way things are presently, our troops have only two choices, do what they are told or if they are very lucky, work at the Walmart.
