Though most polls show the Libertarian Party with 10% of the vote and the Green Party with 5% of the vote, it is well to remember that the most votes the Libertarian Party ever received for president was in 1972 with the Ed Clark / David Koch ticket at 1.07% of the vote and no electoral votes. The second highest was in 2012 with Gary Johnson / James Gray with .99% of the vote and again with no electoral votes.
The LP is good for Democrats so I hope they do well in this unusual election, after all, the Libertarian Party is the GOP on steroids and a bong. Oops, showing my age, steroids and a vape.
Jill Stein’s Green Party is a bit different with taking the crazy Berns away from Hillary. Since it began fielding candidates for president in 1996 it has done better than the LP with a whopping 2.7% in 2000 when Ralph Nader gave the presidency to George W Bush. Though since then – like the LP – they have not been able to break the 1% of the vote barrier.
Polls today show the LP with 10% of the vote and the Greens with 5% and this election quite different than any since 1964. The obvious failure in these polls can also be carried over to Donald Trump polls versus votes. Once a person enters the voting booth they bring with them some semblance of responsibility. Of course Trump rally patrons aside.
