Florida Amendment 1 brief:
Water and Land Conservation – Dedicates funds to acquire and restore Florida conservation and recreation landsFunds the Land Acquisition Trust Fund to acquire, restore, improve, and manage conservation lands including wetlands and forests; fish and wildlife habitat; lands protecting water resources and drinking water sources, including the Everglades, and the water quality of rivers, lakes, and streams; beaches and shores; outdoor recreational lands; working farms and ranches; and historic or geologic sites, by dedicating 33 percent of net revenues from the existing excise tax on documents for 20 years.
For those who do not live and breath having to pay taxes to supportĀ all those lazy bums downtown somewhere, excise taxes are taxes on products other than state sales taxes. Like gas, cigarettes, beer and such…
In the last month $4 million has been donated in support of Amendment 1. At the moment polls show 78% for and 14% against. Leading the fight against is the Florida Chamber of Commerce. I would guess their issue is that most tourism in Florida is not about beaches, fishing, manatees orĀ the Everglades, rather it is about rides and fake wildlife in Orlando. The original initiative was backed and signed into law by Governor Jeb Bush. Present Governor Scott does not support it.
