If I recall didn’t I make this point last week? How is Rand Paul’s screeching about drones taking Americans out having lunch in a Boston cafe any different than a manned drone (helicopter) doing the same thing? I suppose the answer to that is a helicopter has a person who can decide to use a missile OR a more precise sniper shot. Collateral damage may be what this is most about.
But that is not the message of this cartoon. It reminds us that Rand Paul is following the same silly gun enthusiast paranoia that has plagued us since we pretended to put a man on the moon. Rand Paul has filibustered a straw man.
The real issue at play here is not that the President is going to send drones after Jane Fonda or Michael Moore, or Ashly Judd, but that using drones in Pakistan is ginning up the hornets nest with all the collateral damage it does killing about 5 to 1 bystanders to target. Hell, suspend the program and send in the Seals. They like doing that stuff and they are more precise, and become heroes and write books and have movies made about them. Gives them something to do. It is what they volunteered for.
