It wasn’t me who used the Marie Antoinette cliche to “Let them eat cake” to describe this moment from Rand Paul on Fox News Sunday, it was once Florida panhandle conservative Republican congressman Joe Scarborough.
But it was me who called this clown a sniveling little snot for his sarcastic responses to getting caught in a constant state of plagiarism and threatening to take his ball and go home.
I like how he chooses to call extending unemployment insurance beyond 26 weeks a “disservice” to the unemployed. But the words are not the problem as so much of all this Republican re-branding suggests. It is not the delivery it’s the policy. Which is to make the miserable more miserable which will create jobs and cause gold and silver rain down upon the rest of us sometime later. WAY LATER it seems. Let’s see now, we have been waiting since January 21, 1981 and nothing so far.
So often, and I mean often, I hear my Republican friends tell me welfare, food stamps, affordable housing, medicaid, unemployment payments and so on are all paid to lazy bums gaming the system [most receiving any of that are fraudulent scamming kids under 10.] In reality the fraud factor for any of it is less than 5% rather than the 100% they pretend it is.
So ask them this. If there were 20 hungry kids in a room and one of them is only pretending to be hungry, would you deny food to all 20 of them? No wait! Don’t ask them that! Their answer will cause you to lose whatever faith in humanity you may have once had.
