Lauren Mayer performs one of her humorous ditties to embarrass several wrong-headed righties, who tried to use religious freedom as a way to trample the rights of our LGBT friends and neighbors..
I love this comment from Morgan Freeman, who tweeted:
“I hate the word homophobia. It’s not a phobia. You are not scared. You are an a whole.”
Assholes – they are Mr. Freeman, maybe they also are truly scared, as some of the loudest opponents of gay rights are. They helped make it scary to come out of the closet, where it must be getting claustrophobic for them.
Lauren Mayer mentions one of the biggest hold-outs, Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore, who is again refusing people their civil rights. Moore is defying federal law. Now Alabama is the only state refusing to abide by the federal decision to allow LGBT couples to legally wed. “Alabama, it Ain’t Fer Lovers.”
Elsewhere, support for gay marriage hits an all time high according to a news poll by WSJ/NBC!
What – FOX wasn’t polled?
The good news is being borne out in court cases, where homophobic shop owners claim their ‘Christian beliefs’ prevent them from selling flowers and baking wedding cakes for the happy couples.
A trial which ended recently is similar to others which are currently being tried, and others which have been settled in a similar manner.
The trial involved an Oregon bakery owner who claimed her relationship with Jesus Christ prevented her from baking a cake for a gay couple. Now, I’ve yet to find the Gospel of Jesus to the Persecuted Storekeepers, but a judge found that she violated law and discriminated. “A bakery doesn’t constitute a ‘religious institution and as a regular institution must provide equal service to ALL couples. She will pay up to $150,000 in fines. Wouldn’t it have been easier to bake a cake?
A florist in Richland, WA, who refused to provide flowers to a couple who had been good customers for years, used the same defense. Said florist is now a ‘persecuted martyr’ to the cause. The judge ruled that the homophobic florist does not have God-given right to discriminate against customers. It’s a little bit red-necky in that part of the woods…But they’re making progress. Tee hee.
Lauren ends her humorous and informative video with a profound truth, which you can apply equally to racism and religion. “Gay marriage doesn’t DIVIDE anyone. Hateful people do.
