This bill to give your cable company the right to sell your privacy was sponsored by not only Martha Blackburn, but with co sponsor Arizona moderate Republican Jim Flake. It passed both the House and Senate with full Republican support.
In both the House and Senate the Republicans passed this FCC bill giving your ISP the go ahead to track everything you do and sell it to anyone they want. I cannot imagine anyone, even a Republican who would be for that.
75% of Americans have an ISP, about 250 million or so. Who wants your ISP to sell your browsing history to YOUPORN? Or Breitbart? Or Vladimir Putin? Or Pat Robertson? Or the police? Or Mattress Firm?
The defense for this is that Facebook and Google do it so why can’t your ISP do it too? Here is why, sorry for the all caps.
BECAUSE FACEBOOK AND GOOGLE ARE FREE AND YOU PAY FOR YOU ISP.
If you use Google and Facebook you have no say. In fact give them a call and see.
If you use a cable company you are a paying customer who should have some say in it.
The second line of defense is to let the market sort it out. Sorry for all caps again.
THERE IS NO MARKET OTHER THAN VERISON, COMCAST and ATT, A TRIFECTA MONOPOLY
Oh believe it or not they have a third line of defense. That selling your information will gain the cable companies more revenue which will result in your cable bill going down. Really. Gosh… I hope every Republican holds their breath for that one.
