. Seth Meyers takes a closer look at the political crisis in North Carolina where Republicans are seeking to strip all meaningful power away from the incoming Democratic Governor Roy Cooper, before he takes office. Republicans – who are the clear majority in the state, have been in such a state of high anxiety at the thought of having a Democrat in the Governor’s Mansion, that it even seemed reasonable to them to arrest Santa Claus! The jolly elf was part of a sedate, peaceful – and extremely gracious group protesting the shameful and ridiculous Republican actions that would make Cooper a governor in name only.
Asked what power will remain to Governor Cooper, haughty Republican Chair Dallas Woodhouse replied that the Governor would eventually be given a key to the Governor’s Mansion, and use of the ballroom. Woodhouse is riding high now, but I know who’s getting a lump of coal upside the head later. A clip from CNN shows Woodhouse being taken to the woodshed, when an unquestionably higher power calls in to surprise him. Mission accomplished!
