John Iadarola walks good arguments against Sean Hannity and his support of the Confederate flag by making the point that Fox News, talk radio and the GOP constantly attacking African Americans is not the best way claim one is not racist.
There are really two issues here, the free market response which I thought Republicans were all about, and the difference between the government flying the confederate flag and Billy Bob Dufus flying the flag over his garage or on his pickup truck. It’s a losing argument for the Southern crackers no matter how it is posed, for those who now support the flag in the face of the Charleston massacre will only be seen as even more racist than they were before.
Also keep in mind this also reflects the anger of these same people over the gay marriage decision. Evangelical Christians and Billy Bob Dufus can hate queers all they want, carry signs, shout, comment, facebook and extoll their intolerance and bigotry all the want, but not by the government or the marketplace.
I am of two camps in this. Sure the confederate flag is a symbol of slavery, racism, segregation, the Klan, sedition, treason, lynching, and murder, but above it is a symbol of surrender and sore losers. So why not let us see who the french surrendering sore losers are? Though we do know, they are the states suffering the most poverty, worst health care, worst education and who take the most federal money from other states. It’s like a face tattoo that says LOSER on it.
