Senator Al Franken appeared with Conan O’Brien to talk about politics, humor and Donald Trump who is no laughing matter. Conan pointed out that every election is called ‘The most important election of our lifetime.’ Franken immediately returned that it definitely is “the most terrifying election of our lifetime, and because of that, it may be the most important.”
Franken recalled Michael Bloomberg’s inspirational words at the DNC, when he said we need to elect someone sane and competent. A quick audience survey showed that most all of them felt that they fit Bloomberg’s description, but when they were asked if they felt qualified to be president – the audience proved Bloomberg’s bar was far too low, and showed better judgement than the Republican candidate. Franken cited Trump’s erratic statements and poor judgement, using his recent fight with the Gold Medal Khan family to illustrate the point. You’ll recall that after Mr. Khan offered Trump his copy of the Constitution, Trump angrily tweeted:
“What gives him the right to say I haven’t read the Constitution!”
Point made.
